The final results of the parliamentary elections in Greece show a strong advance of the KKE, which reached 7.2% and increased from 15 to 26 elected MPs. This is an extremely positive result, with which the popular strata have rewarded the coherence of the KKE, the revolutionary vanguard of the Greek working class, for having always been in the forefront of the struggles for the defence of workers’ rights, for the class unity of the Greek proletarians, on positions of genuine proletarian internationalism, without compromising on the principles that guide communists in the struggle for the overthrow of capitalism.
We are aware that, based on the electoral law in force in Greece, this result cannot be considered a definitive achievement. The Greek ruling classes, through the conservative ND party, after having let the social democrats of Syriza and PASOK do the dirty work, intend to avail themselves of the possibility of going to a second round of elections, in which that party could win an absolute majority in parliament and rule alone. With this in mind, we salute this result, which is a strong message to all communists: only through coherence and the rejection of any compromise on principles is real progress towards the overthrow of capitalism and the establishment of socialism-communism possible.
