We have learned with deep concern of the opening of a legal file against militants of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE), as well as representatives of the municipality of Tyrnavos elected with the “People’s Rally” list, for their participation in the peaceful and anti-imperialist mobilization of last November 6, 2024.
On that occasion, dozens of comrades from the KKE and KNE courageously blocked the passage of six trucks loaded with ammunition, rockets, and weapons for the Ukrainian front, as part of the Greek government’s complicity with the warmongering policies of NATO, the United States, and the European Union.
The vehicles, belonging to Ukrainian, Polish, and Bulgarian companies, were transporting war material taken from a warehouse near Damasio and were planned to pass in broad daylight, without any precautions, through Tyrnavos, a city with thousands of inhabitants, located in the region of Thessaly. In addition to the load of death to murder Russian and Ukrainian proletarians, these carriages also exposed the local population to an unacceptable and immediate risk: the comrades managed to ward them off with determination, writing in red paint on the trucks the slogan shared by oppressed peoples all over the world, “NATO killers go home”.
We express to all the comrades subjected to repressive measures our full and fraternal militant solidarity.
It is clear that what is being criminalized today is not a “violation of the law”, but the legitimate popular opposition to the transformation of Greece into a logistical and operational base for imperialist wars.
What they seek to repress is the organized strength of workers and youth who, in Greece as elsewhere, refuse to be either accomplices or victims of the military adventures waged by the capitalists and monopolies.
While the Greek government prosecutes the communists, it continues to provide air bases, logistical hubs, ports, and infrastructure to support NATO operations in the Black Sea, Ukraine, and the Middle East. It is no surprise, then, that the repressive apparatus is being mobilized to intimidate and strike those who oppose these criminal plans: similarly, in Italy the government has just definitively enacted the “security decree”, a repressive anti-worker tool, which aims to prosecute with very serious penalties the most effective forms of workers’ struggle, such as picketing and road blockades.
The comrades of the Communist Party of Greece and the Communist Youth of Greece are not alone. Any repressive action against them is an attack on the entire communist movement, and their battle is also ours: against the use of our territories as bases of death, against the involvement of the peoples in the massacres and devastation unleashed by the ruling classes, in Ukraine, in Palestine, and in all other areas ravaged by imperialist war.
Repression of those who resist is confirmation that the bourgeois governments fear only popular mobilization, organized class struggle and internationalist solidarity.
To the Greek comrades we say: your struggle is an example, it is just and it is necessary. Not one step back!
We demand the immediate dismissal of all charges against the militants of the KKE and KNE and the end of all repressive actions against those who oppose the involvement of the peoples in war, in Greece, in Italy, and throughout Europe.
We reaffirm the unity of action of the communist movement worldwide, in Europe through the European Communist Action, to build a front of struggle against imperialist war and capitalist barbarity that generates it.
Greece, Italy, and all countries out of imperialist war!
NATO and foreign military bases out of our countries!
Solidarity with the Communist Party of Greece and the Communist Youth of Greece!
Long live the anti-imperialist internationalist struggle!
