The Communist Front (Italy) strongly condemns the escalation of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
At least 35 Palestinians have been killed, including 12 children, in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, while more than 800 have been injured in the attacks waged in recent days by Israeli security forces and armed settlers in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, in the area of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and other locations in the West Bank.
All this is a consequence of the decision by the Israeli occupation regime to continue with its criminal plans of dispossession and annexation of the occupied Palestinian territories with the complicity of the US, the EU and the Italian government. The last episode in chronological order is the attempt to forcibly evict several Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, in East Jerusalem, where they have been living since 1956.
These actions aim to achieve a true “ethnic cleansing”, to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel and to expand on the whole territory of Palestine and apply a policy of apartheid against Palestinians.
Regardless of how much the media and the Italian bourgeois government endeavour to equate the Israeli aggression with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, reserving words of condemnation only for the latter, the responsibility for this dangerous escalation lies with the state of Israel and imperialist plans in the region.
Taking advantage of the health emergency, in recent months Israel has intensified the provocations, harassment and repression against the Palestinian people, worsening the already difficult pandemic conditions by discriminating Palestinians in the vaccination plans and further militarizing the occupied territories.
In denouncing and condemning the involvement of the Italian bourgeoisie and government in the imperialist plans in the region, as well as the economical, political and military agreements with the state of Israel, the Communist Front (Italy) reaffirms its internationalist solidarity with the Palestinian people and working class. We support the Palestinian Resistance and its communist and progressive components in the just struggle for the liberation of all occupied Palestinian territories, the dismantling of colonial settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem and the end of the siege of Gaza.
On the days leading up to the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, we join our voice to the call for the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their land, the release of all Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli prisons and the creation of an independent, democratic and secular Palestinian state, against collaborationism (internal and external) and the interests and plans of the bourgeoisies in the region.
