The recent military operations launched by Palestinian forces do not happen out of the blue, but are a direct consequence of the criminal policies carried out by the state of Israel against the Palestinian population, which are continuing with the expansion of settlements on Palestinian land and the systematic military and police harassment, oppression and persecution of the Palestinian population through acts of outright terrorism perpetrated by the Israeli army and repressive apparatus.
We denounce the position of unconditional support for the state of Israel by the Italian government, which adopts double standards when it comes to identifying aggressors and aggressed in the various ongoing conflicts, according to the self-interest of the imperialist alliances of which Italy is a part. At the same time we reject the cowardly and hypocritical position of the liberal left which, without denying its support for Zionist oppression, calls for the “need for dialogue,” pretending to ignore that such dialogue is unthinkable in the absence of an immediate halt to the aggression and repression by the state of Israel against the Palestinian people.
We also denounce the servile attitude of our country’s mass media, which have readily branded the Palestinian military response to continued aggression and harassment as a terrorist act against Israel, which has been represented as the helpless victim of a treacherous act of violence against defenseless citizens. The images of terrorized Israeli citizens in air raid shelters are contrasted with the images of Palestinian citizens, victims of gratuitous acts of intimidation and persecution, being terrorized by Israeli forces right into their homes. In our country, the current situation is portrayed as a clash between Islamic terrorists and Israeli defenders of democracy, painting a distorted picture of the conflict taking place in Palestine and concealing the oppressive nature of Israel’s reactionary regime, which is responsible for the establishment of a true apartheid regime in those territories.
The Communist Front (Italy) expresses its support for the secular and progressive Palestinian forces and expresses its unconditional internationalist solidarity with the cause of the liberation of the Palestinian people, for an immediate end to the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories and an end to the expansionist policy of the state of Israel against those territories, for the right of return of Palestinian refugees expelled from their land because of Israeli aggression, for the release of all Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli jails, and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
