Dear comrades,
the Communist Front extends a warm greeting to the delegates and to the Presidency of the 3rd Congress, and through them to all the militants of our fraternal party, the Communist Workers’ Party of Spain.
Capitalism, in its final imperialist stage, is increasingly rotten and parasitic due to its inherent contradictions, which are absolutely irresolvable within its own framework. It is now a fact that capitalism can no longer find an exit from the “secular stagnation” that grips it and drags us from one crisis to another, each time renaming it with increasingly imaginative labels: first the subprime financial crisis, then the sovereign debt crisis, followed by the pandemic crisis, and finally the war crisis. In reality, this is a persistent crisis of absolute over-accumulation of capital, which also affects the most dynamic capitalist economies. In fact, in China and India this phenomenon appears in the slowdown of GDP growth. Naturally, this is not comparable to the deplorable economic recession affecting the European Union, worsened by its anti-Russian sanctions frenzy.
This general objective condition sharpens rivalries and competition between states and capitalist blocs, which seek to secure, for their strategic supremacy, control over sources of raw materials and energy supply, markets for commodities, maritime and land routes through which they transit, as well as the communication networks through which information circulates. Emerging capitalist powers such as China, India, Russia and the other BRICS countries are challenging US hegemony and the dictatorship of the dollar, demanding a new partition of the world under the slogan of “multipolarity”. In particular, China and the United States are increasingly competing openly for first place within the world imperialist system.
Crisis-ridden capitalism becomes increasingly aggressive, as shown by the proliferation of armed conflicts, ever more numerous and intense, which could escalate into direct confrontation between nuclear powers. Today capitalism has become a factor of serious risk for the destruction of the productive forces and of the planet itself.
We have never believed in the “pacifism” of US imperialist bourgeoisie, which cuts across both Democrats and Republicans depending on momentary convenience. Therefore, we do not believe in the will of Trump or of the United States to bring the ongoing conflicts to an end. The United States today has an objective interest in the continuation of the war in Ukraine, since it continues to derive enormous profits from the sale of US weapons to Ukraine, weapons paid for by the European Union and NATO, even though it is now evident that the Euro-Atlantic bloc has lost the war. At the same time, the EU is increasing its dependence on supplies of LNG and other hydrocarbons from the United States, even though they are five times more expensive than Russian ones. The combined effect of rising hydrocarbon prices due to anti-Russian sanctions and the growth of military spending, linked both to the EU rearmament plan and to each member state’s NATO commitment to bring military expenditure to 5% of GDP, will be devastating for the working class and the popular strata: inflation, rising cost of living, cuts in social spending. All this benefits above all US energy and military monopolies, and only secondarily European arms producers. Furthermore, in a perfect war economy scenario, capitalists will seek to reduce production costs and regain competitiveness by increasing working hours and work intensity and keeping wages low. An additional impoverishment of the working class and the majority of the population is therefore foreseeable, caused by the delusions of the bourgeoisie of the European Union and its political leaders who dream of defeating Russia and plundering the resources of that country and of Ukraine, in the hope of relaunching their crisis-stricken economies.
To impose the war economy and their “anti-crisis” measures, capitalists everywhere are restricting the political and trade-union rights of the working class, going so far as to severely limit even the formal freedoms of bourgeois democracy itself. Wartime censorship, disinformation, falsification of history, police and judicial repression against workers and communists are now daily practice of the European Union and the bourgeois governments of its member states, with features that closely resemble fascism. Communists must oppose with all their strength this reactionary turn of the bourgeois state, not in order to defend a constitutional order that has always guaranteed exploitation and the dictatorship of capital, but for its revolutionary overthrow.
EU imperialism pushes Zelensky and his fascist junta to continue the slaughter of the Ukrainian people in a war that is now lost, fought in the interests of US and EU monopolies. EU sanctions and the war economy are impoverishing our peoples and destroying the productive forces in our countries. Moreover, the incompetence and warmongering adventurism of the EU and NATO leadership threaten to drag our countries onto a path of no return towards nuclear war. The EU’s complicity in the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza, its support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine and for the violence of illegal Zionist settlers in the West Bank are unacceptable and unjustifiable facts. Driven by specific economic interests, the attitude of EU imperialists towards the Palestinian people thus demonstrates the cynical and inhuman character of capitalism, which in the face of profit is capable of any atrocity. For these reasons, communists must intensify the struggle to boycott imperialist rearmament plans, to halt this irresponsible drift towards war, to end support for the murderous State of Israel, and to fight for the withdrawal of our countries from NATO, the European Union and all other imperialist organisations.
The role of the working class in this struggle is central, decisive and irreplaceable, since only it has the capacity to directly block and boycott war production and logistics, as shown not only in Italy but also in recent mass mobilisations and workers’ strikes in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The working class must become the pivot of a broad movement with a strongly anti-capitalist orientation, involving the widest popular strata, against rearmament and imperialist war, with the awareness that the struggle for peace is inseparable from the struggle for socialism-communism, since war is inherent to capitalism and only by overthrowing it can it be definitively eliminated.
An essential condition for this to happen is the existence, in our countries, of strong communist and workers’ parties, ideologically firm in the principles of Marxism-Leninism, deeply rooted politically in the working class, disciplined in organisational terms and capable of responding to the needs of our time. For this reason, dear comrades, we consider that the main slogan of your congress, “A Party that fights in every condition”, is fully appropriate and in line with the needs of a modern communist party that does not merely bear witness, but seeks to truly change the world in favour of the exploited and the oppressed. We must strive to raise the practical, ideological and political preparation of our militant cadres, so that they are ready to respond, with all means that will be necessary, to all the challenges we will face along the path of class struggle. Only in this way will we be able to make our parties fully the vanguard of the working class and lead it victoriously towards proletarian revolution and the construction of socialism-communism.
With this spirit we wish you, dear comrades, a fruitful congress that strengthens your Party, its internationalist and revolutionary vocation, and that leads to the achievement of new and important victories in our common struggle for socialism-communism.
